About this Project
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is a 202,449 square foot facility, which is comprised of a central energy plant and a 4-story children’s hospital. Each building is built to with stain Category 5 hurricane winds.. The central energy plant was designed with expansion in mind, both on the cooling and heating sides of the equation. Currently there are (2) 900-ton Trane chillers, (2) Marley cooling towers, and (2) 200-hp Cleaver Brooks boilers within the plant that service the entire facility. The new 48,000 belowground fuel oil system will supply the generators with fuel, as well as, the boiler system in the event emergency services are needed. The central plant also houses the domestic water booster pump system & medical gas manifolds necessary to service the entire facility. All piping systems are run underground from the central plant to the hospital facility.
The new hospital facility has (11) air handling units serving over 300 constant volume terminal boxes throughout the facility in order to provide the comfort cooling needs within the building. Some of the monitoring systems installed to help reach LEED milestones were outside air flow stations on each of the air handlers and CO2 monitor systems in public areas. All roof-mounted exhaust fans were designed to meet the Category 5 requirements by Miami-Dade and installed in strict accordance to the NOA documents from the city. This facility can provide all the services to support the needs of growing children throughout the community. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital was presented with the prestigious ENR/Southeast Magazine “Best Healthcare Project for 2011”, which recognizes excellence within the construction industry.
